This two-day course covers the practical skills a First Aider needs in the modern workplace and will give you the confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies. It is ideal for nominated workplace first aiders or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid.
In line with the guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves workplace first aiders for three years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually. This course is certified by Highfield Qualifications.
IN ADDITION, ALL LEARNERS WILL RECEIVE CATASTROPHIC BLEED MANAGEMENT AWARENESS TRAINING.
This course will equip learners with the required knowledge and skills to manage a catastrophic bleed. The course teaches students the knowledge and skills to identify a catastrophic bleed and the treatment of it.
It is designed for people working in higher-risk environments such as the security or construction industries, tree surgery and farming, where the risk of this type of injury is more significant.
With the national deployment of Emergency Trauma Packs around the country, this learning supports their intention and ensures that students are aware of how to use the equipment included in them. Although they are designed for members of the public to use on each other, would it not be better practice to have a good working knowledge of the equipment included in them before having to use them for real?
If you work in an environment where the risk of injury resulting in a catastrophic bleed is possible wether from the equipment being used or the environment you are working in, then having the appropriate first aid equipment and training is absolutely necessary

ABOUT THE COURSE
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
The objective of this qualification is to support learners in becoming first aiders in the workplace. The content of the qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first aid needs assessment.
This course is designed for people working in higher-risk environments such as the security or construction industries, Tree surgery, and farming, where the risk of this type of injury is greater.
THE FIRST AID AT WORK COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING MODULES:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with major illness
THE CATASTROPHIC BLEED COURSE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING MODULES:
- Recognising and understanding catastrophic bleeds
- Essential equipment used to manage a catastrophic bleed.
- Pressure Bandages, Tourniquets & haemostatic products.
- Risks of the inaccurate use of tourniquets and haemostatic products.
- Patient aftercare.
HOW IS THIS COURSE ASSESED?
This course is assessed with a multiple-choice exam and practical assessment.
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE COURSE AND ASSESSMENT WILL RESULT IN A CERTIFICATE BEING AWARDED WITH A VALIDITY OF 3 YEARS.
PRE-REQUISITES
ALL LEARNERS MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE.
THE ONLINE PRE-LEARNING MODULES MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE ATTENDING THE PRACTICAL SESSIONS.
ALL LEARNERS MUST BE IN POSSESION OF A VALID PHOTO ID AT THE START OF THE PRACTICAL COURSE ACCEPTED FORMS OF ID ARE A PASSPORT OR DRIVERS LICENSE
